Basic Connection Troubleshooting

Here's a few easy steps to try before you call for Internet support.

First, determine if you have a broadband router or not. A router is a device that is used in conjunction with a cable-modem to share the connection between two or more computers.

If you do not have a router, follow these steps:

Unplug the power from the back of the cable-modem (not your computer!). It will be the small black wire on the bottom of the back. It will just pull out; you will not need to unscrew the connection.

Count to 10 in your head. This will give the modem time to power down completely.

Re-insert the power cable into the modem.

Watch the lights on the front of the modem. When the modem has finished initializing, you should have 4 Green and 1 Orange lights. This process usually takes about 30 seconds.

Wait about 1 minute after the modem has finished initializing, then try to connect to the internet.

If you are still unable to connect, contact support (334-493-8822 or 334-493-4571).

If you do have a router, or have Vonage phone service, follow these steps:

Unplug the power from the back of the cable-modem (not your computer!) AND the router. It will be the small black wire on the bottom of the back. It will just pull out; you will not need to unscrew the connection.

Count to 10 in your head. This will give the modem and router time to power down completely.

Re-insert the power cable into the cable-modem ONLY.

Watch the lights on the front of the modem. When the modem has finished initializing, you should have 4 Green lights. This process usually takes about 30 seconds.

Now, re-insert the power into the router/Vonage box. The power-up process for these usually takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute. When it has finished, you should see an Orange PC-Activity light on the front of the cable-modem.

Wait about 1 minute after the router has finished initializing, then try to connect to the internet.

If you are still unable to connect, contact support (334-493-8822 or 334-493-4571).
